Add a lightweight second layer of meaning across folders and boards.

Tags are useful when the same reference should belong to multiple contexts without being duplicated. They work best as a small shared vocabulary, not a giant uncontrolled label set.

Add tags on the saved reference card

Tags are added directly on the saved reference card. This is the fastest way to add a second layer of meaning without moving the item into another folder.

Use tags for recurring attributes such as mood, topic, content type, campaign, or priority when the same save supports more than one context.

  1. 1

Open the saved reference card you want to organize.

  2. 2

Find the Tags field near the folder selector.

Tags are added directly on the saved reference card so you can classify an item without changing its folder.
  3. 3

Type the tag name and add it directly on the card.

Current limit: Right now you can add up to 3 tags per saved reference. A future update may expand that limit.

Keep tags short and reusable

The best tags are short, reusable, and recognizable at a glance. They should help retrieval, not create another naming system you never remember.

If every save gets a unique tag, tags stop being useful. Reuse the same terms across multiple items whenever the meaning is truly shared.

  1. 1

Choose tags you are likely to use again on future saves.

  2. 2

Keep them short enough to scan quickly on the card.

Reusable tags like website or colors are easier to search and scan than highly specific one-off labels.
  3. 3

Avoid creating slightly different versions of the same idea.

Pro tip: Use tags for cross-cutting labels and folders for primary structure. That keeps the archive flexible without making the system heavy.

FAQ

How should I use Tags in Keep Mates?
Tags works best when it supports retrieval instead of raw accumulation. Start with the core workflow described above, keep the structure lightweight, and organize only as much as future-you will realistically use.
Does Tags change what is stored locally?
No. Keep Mates stays local-first across this workflow as well. Your saved references remain in the browser, while the website account is used for sign-in, billing, and license access.
What should I do if Tags is not behaving the way I expect?
First check whether the expectation comes from a cloud-sync bookmark tool or from Keep Mates' local-first model. If the issue is really about billing, activation, or repeating product behavior, use the support page for direct help.
